About the Institute of Public Finance.
The Institute of Public Finance (IPF) is a non-profit think tank that generates research-driven evidence for advocacy and provides technical assistance to state and non-state actors to promote equitable, efficient, and effective public finance management underpinned by transparency, accountability and public participation.
IPF has over ten (10) years of experience in fiscal decentralization and budget advocacy and is committed to empowering various stakeholders (including but not limited to government, civil society, citizens, and academia) with the tools and knowledge needed to strengthen fiscal systems, promote participatory decision making in budget processes, and enhance accountability and transparency in public finance.
The Opportunity.
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance youth participation in governance and public finance decision-making, we seek to engage a diverse pool of university students as Trainers of Trainers (ToTs) in university PFM boot camps targeting students pursuing Economics, Business, Law, Journalism and any other related course identified to be relevant. Our engagement facilitates the transfer of expertise and practical insights on Public Finance Management processes from IPF as a think tank to university students to foster a culture of active participation and meaningful engagement in governance processes in the target counties and especially in public budgets.
The training program is oriented to empower these ToTs with knowledge and skills related to planning, budgeting, and effective civic engagement processes. Most importantly, it seeks to emphasize the importance of meaningful public participation in shaping budgets that address the needs and aspirations of the citizens. The target universities are Maasai Mara, Laikipia, Taita Taveta, Pwani, and Cooperatives universities.
In view of this, IPF is recruiting a cohort of Trainer of Trainers (ToTs) whose training will be oriented around specific skill sets on Kenya’s budget process, analysis of budget documents, and evidence-based advocacy. After this training, IPF will provide successive mentorship to the ToTs who will in turn support successive cohorts of students in their institutions who are committed to promoting participatory decision-making in budget processes.
Eligibility Criteria.
Be a student of and currently studying in one of the following universities: Maasai Mara, Laikipia, Taita Taveta, Pwani, and Cooperatives Universities.
